Letters, 1843-1870.

The collection consists primarily of letters from Charles King in California to his family in Gorham, Maine. King owned a gorcery store in San Francisco and he built and ran a sawmill in Auburn. His letters describe his life and discuss family business. There are a few letters by other family members and two by unidentified individuals. The papers also contain a 6 page document describing China Town in Los Angeles.
